Why Support Canopy

John Damon, CEO, Canopy Children's Solutions, explains Canopy's vision to solve the vexing problem of Autism with a seamless level of care.

The first person ever diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) was in Mississippi. So it’s fitting that volunteers from Microsoft have chosen to collaborate with Mississippi's Canopy Children's Solutions to explore innovative techniques for treating this puzzling disorder worldwide.

Over 100 years ago, Canopy Children’s Solutions was founded with the mission of placing orphaned children into permanent, loving homes.   Through time and cultural shifts, changes in society, and in the definition of “family,” Canopy has expanded its role as a champion for Mississippi’s children. Over the past 100 years, Canopy pioneered programs for children suffering from abuse, addiction, psychiatric illness, and developmental disorders. When it seemed like there was no one to turn to and no place to go, Canopy was there.

Since 2017, Microsoft and Canopy began partnering to provide more solutions for families and kids requiring services for autism and other behavioral challenges.  Canopy and Microsoft are working together to develop cloud-based Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) applications to help assess the needs of a child and deliver therapy services regardless of location.  The intent is to deliver services in Mississippi initially but, down the road, Canopy is seeking to also provide services worldwide.  In 2018, Canopy founded it Autism Center of Excellence, which they hope to use for exactly that purpose.

Not only is Microsoft helping Canopy to achieve more by educating them on Microsoft accessible technology, they are also helping them to transform digitally to meet the demands of the world in the space of behavioral health and Autism. The work that is being done with Canopy is going to have an amazing impact on the world over.

Imagine a culture where every person could contribute at their maximum potential.
